Join the Settlers Park Community

The 54-hectare Settler's Park Nature Reserve lies along the banks of the Baakens River running through the heart of the city.

It has four entrances:

1) Chelmsford Avenue (Just across the road from Chelmsford Cottage)
2) How Avenue, just off Park Drive
3) Third Avenue Walmer
4) From Bridge Street, at the bottom Brickmakers Kloof rd. (near Bridge street Brewery)

The park offers great scenic walks and birdlife starting from any of the entrances.
Facilities include a flower display house, a Marquette of the 1820 Settlers' Statue, indigenous flora, rock pools with stepping-stones and grassed areas ideal for picnicking.

Walkers are rewarded with diverse bird life, small buck and other fauna.


Each of the many river crossings provides raised stepping-stones to keep your feet dry

At the far point of your walk you will arrive at the Bridge Street Brewery to be rewarded with great local craft great beer and delicious artisnal food.

Chelsmford Cottage is located in a charming self-contained island surrounded by the Baakens river. 

Settlers Park starts from our gate and provides a beautiful scenic 5km walk along the banks of the Baakens river. 

The Map below shows the length of the walk through Settlers park.  The distance is just over 4 km there and back.
